When we present our ideas, art, or talent to the world, there’s always something that motivates us to share with the people what we have to offer. Truly, in a world where being famous is the new trend we seek something that would automatically make us relevant, recognition. It is thanks to being noticed for something you feel proud of or feel a sense of entitlement to that keeps on bestowing a whole new era of creativity and originality. Where can we see this? One of the greatest inventions of entertainment is filmmaking! Seeing directors, screenwriters, actors and actresses be part of a project trying to capture the audience with the drama, comedy, or suspense that they provide is just an amazing seed to plant in the world of entertainment. What better way to give these hardworking people recognition than to allow them to be opted from a range of different categories and competitors to achieve the ultimate appreciation, then with a winning award? That’s right, we are talking about the Emmy Awards.
The Emmy Awards Are an extensive range of awards presented in recognition of excellence in American prime-time television for artistic and technical merit. The first Emmy ceremony took place at the Hollywood Athletic Club back on January 25, 1949. Back then only six awards were presented, one of them being a special Emmy presented to Louis McManus who designed the statuette given as a reward. Currently, there are a total of 16 categories by TV shows and actor’s performances are criticized.
The Emmys 2023 were delayed from September by the dual strike of Hollywood’s actors and writers. Finally, on the 16th of January, we got our ceremony at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, just a week after the Golden Globes. We had many good shows presented at this ceremony such as Succession and The Bear, acclaimed by the fans. These took several awards and many say, they led the event with their attainment. The Bear took home the award for Outstanding Comedy alongside acting awards for Jeremy Allen White for starring as Chef Carmy, supporting actress Ayo Edibri as sous chef Sydney, and actor Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Richie, Carmy’s problematic best friend and “cousin.” Succession, on the other hand, won a total of six Emmys, including Best Supporting Actor in a Drama for actor Matthew Macfadyen and Best Writing in a Drama for show creator Jesse Armstrong.
Even if it was delayed by 3 months, the Emmys still held quite the surprises. One of the most notable recognitions given in the ceremony was to actress Quinta Brunson who starred as an optimistic second-grade teacher Janine Teague on ABC’s “Abbott Elementary”, winning best leading actress in a comedy series, making her the second black woman to win the category after Isabel Sanford in 1981 from “The Jeffersons”. Not only has Brunson won an incredible award for her role but has achieved a greater merit not only for her career but for representing a whole community with her accomplishments.
By the looks of it, the Emmys are here to stay, and it is thanks to this that we will keep watching how many of our favorite shows, actors, and actresses are granted the opportunity to be a part of this prestige ceremony and possibly win the merit they may deserve. This year’s event was a whole turnaround for many, the only thing left to think about is what awaits us next year.
