On September 12, 2024, a significant fire broke out at the all-inclusive Club Med Punta Cana resort in the Dominican Republic. The flames, which started in the early hours of the morning, rapidly spread, affecting key areas of the resort, including the reception, main restaurant, and pool bar. While the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, it is believed that it may have originated in one of the resort’s utility areas, possibly due to an electrical malfunction or another incident.

Thanks to the resort’s quick evacuation procedures and the fast response from the fire department, a potentially severe disaster was averted. No guest rooms were damaged, and there were no fatalities. However, one guest sustained a minor injury during the evacuation, which was promptly treated by the resort’s medical staff.

In an official statement shared with news platforms, the resort said:
“Thanks to the swift and efficient response of our on-site team and local authorities, the fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished, with no serious injuries reported to our guests and staff.”

Club Med has taken immediate measures to accommodate guests affected by the fire. Those impacted have been relocated to neighboring resorts or offered transportation to the Michès property. Many guests expressed relief on social media, praising the resort’s quick action and the minimal disruption to their vacations.

The resort also announced the following:
“Following the fire at Club Med Punta Cana on Sept. 12, and after a thorough assessment to ensure the highest standards of safety and quality for our guests, we have adjusted our reopening date to Nov. 9. This period will allow us the time necessary to guarantee our customers an exceptional experience upon reopening. Our priority remains the safety, comfort, and enjoyment of our guests, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to Club Med Punta Cana in November.”

Already in renovation, the resort is working closely with local authorities and structural engineers to assess the damage and carry out the necessary repairs. Management has reassured the public that guest safety will remain the top priority throughout this process, ensuring all safety standards are met before reopening.
